Intellectual Property: Obtaining IP Rights and Taking a Look at Infringement

In this workshop, we will explore the various types of intellectual property and how intellectual property rights are obtained.  This workshop will cover patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and trade dress.  We will explore identifying the types of intellectual property a business may have. We will also take a look at what it means to infringe or misappropriate others’ intellectual property rights.  This course is for individuals and small- to mid-sized business representatives.  More particularly, this course is for those who wish to understand the types of intellectual property they may have and what it means to infringe someone else’s IP rights.

Presenter: Daphne Burton

Daphne Burton is an intellectual property attorney with more than twenty (20) years of experience.  She is a registered patent attorney, who is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Ms. Burton holds a bachelor of science in engineering and a law degree.  She worked as an engineer prior to attending law school.

Ms. Burton is the managing attorney at the Burton IP Law Group, a boutique intellectual property law firm.  In her law practice, she has represented individual inventors, small businesses, mid-sized businesses, Fortune 500 companies and the United States of America.  Her law practice includes obtaining IP rights for her clients, and representing her clients in intellectual property lawsuits.
