9:00am - 3:00pm
In this initial session, participants are introduced to the tenets of effective inclusive schools today. We explore strategies for supporting all students including those related to collaboration and changes in school culture. We will discuss viewing inclusion as a process (vs. as a place); presuming competence in all learners, creating a collaborative “radical role sharing” culture, and more.
Session 2 & 3: Keys to Inclusion
Specific strategies that support students with disabilities will be shared and illustrated with classroom exercises, video clips, and examples. The ideas can be used in teaching and learning, as part of a positive behavior support plan, or simply to help a learner participate in the classroom and in daily lessons. Key ideas featured include video modeling, expanding communication strategies, exploring personal supports & paraprofessional roles, and building on strengths and fascinations.
Session 3 ends with a discussion on extending the learning by teaching others about ideas featured in the workshop.
