The Role of Code Enforcement in Rebuilding the Community

Moderator: Andrea Bruno, Housing Manager for St. Clair Superior Development Corporation

Code Enforcement is a vital tool for cities to maintain housing values, yet diminished resources have led to the scaling back of code enforcement in some communities.  The City of Cleveland is committed to hiring new code enforcement staff and implementing a new rental inspection program.  Some community advocates are concerned that this could lead to more housing instability for lower income renters, yet lack of consistent code enforcement programs leads to a decline in quality housing, loss of confidence in the housing market, and increased neighborhood blight.

Speakers: Andrea Bruno, Housing Manager for St Clair Superior Development Corporation;

Ayonna Donald, Acting Director of Building and Housing for the City of Cleveland;

Don Graves, Assistant Building Commissioner for the City of Parma;

Kyle Krewson, Building Department Manager for Shaker Heights;

Sally Martin, Housing Manager for South Euclid.
