Dr, Robert F. van Brederode, LLB, LLM, P.h.D)

A tax lawyer, scholar and practitioner with over 30 years of experience advising a diverse portfolio of clients in the area of global indirect taxes such as VAT.

He held senior positions with several of the Big 4 and top 10 accounting firms and served as tax counsel to a Fortune 100 company. 

He was assistant professor at Maastricht University, School of Law; (full) professor of taxation at the Erasmus University, School of Economics; and adjunct professor at New York University, School of Law, Graduate Tax Program.

He is the author of dozens of journal articles and 7 books. His latest project (with prof. Richard Krever) “VAT and Financial Services: Comparative Law and Economic Perspective is scheduled to be published by Springer Science and Media in 2017. Is  alsoworking on a second revised and extended edition of “Legal Interpretation of Tax Law to be published by Kluwer Law International in 2017.

Markus Susilo, Partner, VAT Service Leader – UAE, 

Markus Susilo has 10+ years of experience in the financial services industry in the UAE, other GCC countries and Western Europe. During his career in the western European countries, he has supported companies in managing their multi-jurisdictional tax compliances. During his assignment in Austria, he has been involved in dealing with VAT compliance requirements from the set-up to the ongoing activities, such as filing return and payment. With the introduction of VAT in the UAE, he has been a regular VAT column contributor to Khaleej Times.

Anurag Chaturvedi, Senior Director, Technology

He is a chartered accountant, Certified Public Accountant and International Accountant from UK. He carries 15 years of IT consulting with government, pulic and private sector across CIS, Europe, GCC and India. He served clients in financial institutions, Oil and Gas, Hospitality, Retail amongst others.

Narasimha Das, Associate Partner, Compliance & Legal

He brings over 30 years of diversified experience in Legal, Compliance, Corporate Governance, Risk Management & Business Advisory. He is a trained lawyer as well as an in-house legal counsel.

His expertise includes advising clients in meeting regulatory compliance, negotiations, policy making, structuring & documentations. His role in this engagement will principally relate to advice on regulatory & compliance requirements.

CA Vivek Batra, Partner, Advisory Services, Corporate Finance & VAT

A Chartered Accountant from India, with over 23 years post qualification.

He has diverse experience working with large multinational(s) in senior financial management and consultancy roles. His expertise includes Syndicated Finance, M&A advisory, Valuations, Feasibility Research and GST/VAT.

He has extensive exposure International Tax, Transfer Pricing, GST/VAT across countries in UAE, GCC, Singapore, Cyprus, Netherlands, Australia, Russia, Nigeria, India etc .,

 

VAT Technical Workshop - 22 May 

Overview

As part of our effort to enable UAE businesses to prepare for and gain understanding of the upcoming VAT laws, we are conducting a series of workshops in the UAE until the end of the year 2017. Our previous workshop in April focussed on the planning tools for businesses to start with their VAT implementation in their organization. This workshop would also be covering the IT and legal perspective when implementing VAT in your organisation 

Which topics are being covered?

  • The GCC VAT Framework agreement and how it will impact the business in the UAE
  • System and Legal risk and implementation
  • VAT impact on corporate financing

How it works?

This VAT technical workshop will be of one day duration and targeted to equip businesses with key framework and understand the nuances and details of VAT implementation issues. Being a practical workshop, majority of the time will be spent on case studies and group discussion with the respective workshop leader. It will be delivered by subject-matter experts from our UAE and/or international office.
