You are invited to join Illinois RiverWatch and One Mississippi on June 24th in Bethalto for water quality monitoring and trash pickup on Rocky Branch and East Fork of Wood River streams. These streams flow into Wood River Creek, which is on the Illinois EPA’s “impaired streams” list for polluted waters. Your assistance will help determine what the water quality of Rocky Branch and East Fork of Wood River is and clean them up to improve river health for the future. You can stay all day or choose which part of the event you will participate in.
Lunch is provided for the first 30 volunteers participating in the cleanup portion!
What to bring: We will provide trash bags, gloves, water quality monitoring equipment, lunch for the first 30 registrants participating in the afternoon cleanup, and water to drink. Please wear old clothing, and rubber boots or old tennis shoes for wading.
Note for families: only one person from your family needs to register, but please mark how many other people you are bringing. Also, we will be climbing somewhat steep stream banks and wading in water, so the very young or the very old may not comfortably be able to participate.
Schedule for June 24th:
9 am—noon: Water quality monitoring
Noon – 1 pm: Lunch and stream pollution presentation
1 pm – 3 pm: Stream cleanup
