Introduction to Play Therapy:

Description:

This workshop will provide basic information about what play therapy is and how it works to bring about healing. Specific interventions will be demonstrated and practiced. Participants will also obtain information about the role of the Association for Play Therapy (APT) and how to become a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). Clinicians interested in increasing skill and knowledge in play therapy are highly encouraged to attend.

Objectives:

Differentiate between play and play therapy
Describe how play therapy works to bring about healing
Demonstrate at least five play therapy techniques that can be used immediately

My Favorite Play Therapy Techniques

Description:

This workshop will begin with a brief description of the difference between Non-Directive and Directive Play Therapy, and move right into at least five (5) Directive play therapy techniques that can be implemented immediately with children and adolescents, and even adult clients. Come prepared for an information rich and interactive session! Additionally, you will learn how to become a Registered Play Therapist through the Association for Play Therapy in California.

Objectives:

Differentiate between Non-Directive and Directive Play Therapy.
Demonstrate and practice at least five (5) Directive Play Therapy Techniques.
Discuss the application of Play Therapy Techniques to client cases.

Sonia Hinds, APRN/PMH-BC, RPT-S; Founder and Director of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars. Executive Director of Barstow Acres Children’s Center, a non-profit organization that provides children’s mental health services. Trained in Gestalt play therapy with Violet Oaklander (retired). Authored chapter, Play Therapy with African-American Children in text, Cultural Issues in Play Therapy by Eliana Gil, PhD, RPT-S and Athena Drewes, PsyD, RPT-S.

Continuing Education:

CE Hours for Social Workers/LMHCs/School Psychologists/MFCCs/Play Therapists: 3 per training

NBCC/LPCs: 3 Clock Hours/0.3 CEUs per training
