The newest addition to Malcolm Smith Adventures’ ride lineup is the product of my years of riding and racing around the world.  From the freezing Andes Mountains of South America to the scorching sand of the Sahara Desert, I have raced a motorcycle where most only dream of going.  From these experiences I have come to understand what makes a lasting impression on a motorcycle rider and how an event should be crafted.  My father is famous for his challenging and memorable rides, if you have ever ridden with him you know exactly what I’m talking about.  I learned from this over the years and hope this ride will set the bar even higher.

During many years of pre-running and exploring in Baja, I have spent my fair share of nights alone in the desert.  The unplanned nature of these nights was always slightly troubling at the time, however the experience was unlike anything else.  Looking back, I wouldn’t trade one of my nights in the desert for the nicest hotel room.  During the planning of this ride, I wondered how I could share this with others in a way that was comfortable yet just as memorable.  It wasn’t until the 2016 Dakar Rally that I figured it out.  The rally always includes at least one “Marathon Stage”, where the competitors are separated from the chase trucks for a single night and given a small bag of essentials to get them through the night.  This ride will include a similar Marathon Stage where the riders will be treated to an epic night under the stars.  The location for this night stop is unlike any other and one of my favorite places in Baja.

I designed this ride for those who are looking to challenge themselves with technical single track and cross country riding.  Graded roads will be kept to a bare minimum with most (if not all) of the daily mileage being single track, cross country or primitive two track.  The “No Wimps in Baja” event will be a true one-of-a-kind dirt bike ride full of adventure and memories that will last a lifetime.

THE DETAILS
The ride will consist mainly of single track and technical two tracks.  A or B riders only should attempt this ride and it will be a good challenge for those B riders.  If you have participated in our annual Baja Ride in the past this ride will be considerably more technical but shorter.  

The ride will start and end in Ensenada at the famous Estero Beach Hotel.  After departing Ensenada, the ride will work its way south for three days before turning north and returning to Ensenada five days later.  Expect 100 to 175 miles per day depending on the difficulty of the terrain.  

This true epic adventure is a ride-at-your-own-pace GPS guided event.  You will not be forced to ride in a pack or follow the leader if you don’t want to.  Each morning you will take off and follow your GPS to the next destination.  You are encouraged to ride with other riders of similar abilities or you may choose to ride on your own, it is entirely up to you.  

Along the way, there will be stops for food and fuel, each will be clearly marked on the map and GPS.  The ride will be fully supported by our experienced crew and highway chase trucks, the crew is responsible for hauling your luggage and ensuring your trip goes smoothly.  A support center will be set up each night at the host hotel with tools, chemicals, oils, tires, tubes and spare parts.  There will be two support riders on the trail at all times to offer assistance if the need arises, one sweep rider and one mid-pack rider.
