Databases 101

A properly designed database frees up your time to focus on mission instead of administration, and reveals information and trends about your programs, constituents and donors that you wouldn’t have caught any other way. In this session we’ll cover the basics of getting started, free and low-cost software options, and the answer to when your board inevitably asks “Couldn’t we just use Excel?” There will be time for your questions as well!
This is a great session for groups who are considering moving to a new or inplementing a first database.

Jeff Larson is a graduate of the University of Minnesota theater program, the Lincoln Center Directors’ Lab, and the Carlson School of Management, cobbling together a degree in arts administration before anyone offered such a thing. He’s spent the last 20 years working in Twin Cities theater, including time at the Guthrie, Children’s Theater Company, Theatre de la Jeune Lune, the Walker Art Center and the Southern Theater, and most recently as executive director of the Minnesota Fringe. Jeff is now a partner in Arts Progress, where he specializes in database design and integration, marketing, and process improvement for time savings and happy offices.

The MRAC office space has free plentiful parking in 2 surface lots on the west and east sides of the building. If ASL interpretation or other accommodation would help you enjoy this training session please contact Bethany at bethany@mrac.org.
