American Indian Studies:
Implementing Wisconsin Act 31

This day long workshop will have in depth presentation and discussions regarding American Indian Studies in Wisconsin (often referred to as Act 31).

Wisconsin Act 31 is state law that requires all public school districts and pre-service teacher programs to provide instruction in the history, culture, and tribal sovereignty of the eleven federally recognized American Indian nations in the state of Wisconsin. The workshop is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and information they need to integrate the requirements of Act 31 into:

  • lesson plans
  • material selections
  • pedagogical practices
  • district curriculum

Information about Wisconsin American Indian nations' histories, treaty rights, sovereignty, and cultures will be presented throughout the workshop.

***This training can be used to fulfill the licensure stipulation if participants attend the workshop and complete two follow-up assignments.
