GLITTERING LAS VEGAS:

The Costumes of Les Folies Bergère

Please join Costume Society of America's Western Region for an exclusive, two-part program in Las Vegas, Nevada. CSA WR member Karan Feder, and Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas Guest Curator of Costume and Textiles, will lead our group on an exhibition tour of Les Folies Bergere: Entertaining Las Vegas One Rhinestone at a Time, which explores the extravagant, glitzy artistry of Vegas’ longest-running Parisian cabaret show. On display are rarely seen photographs, artwork, documents, oral and video histories and spectacular stage costumes from the archives at the Las Vegas News Bureau, UNLV Libraries Special Collections and the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas. The unique exhibition interprets the legacy of the stage show via the personal narratives of those individuals who brought life to Las Vegas’ Folies Bergère.

After the exhibition viewing, Karan will treat CSA WR Members and their guests to a private, "behind-the-scenes" collections tour. Karan's expertise in costume design (she is both Costume Design Award Committee Chairperson and Small Museum Collection Care Grant Selection Committee for Costume Society of America) and familiarity with this singular, historic collection will dazzle our group as much as the objects she chooses to highlight.

CHECK IN: Tour check in will begin at 1pm; the hour-long exhibition tour will begin promptly at 1:30pm, followed immediately by the collection tour. Please be advised that latecomers may not be able to join the group after the gallery tour has concluded at 2:30pm. Please note: we will not be able to accomodate on-site registration on the day of the event; advance ticket purchase is required for attendance. Limit one guest per member.

AMENITIES: Attendance fee includes access to the Springs Preserve campus (including botanical gardens), on which The Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas is situated. The Divine Cafe at the Springs Preserve serves between 10am-4pm, allowing for a pre-tour lunch or post-tour refreshments. The Springs Preserve gift shop offers one-of-a-kind gifts, books, desert plants, and unique souvenirs.

DIRECTIONS: Directions from Down Town Las Vegas/Las Vegas Strip can be found here. We encourage ride sharing among registrants; Uber, Lyft, and taxi cabs are good, economical options.
