Diversity In Finance:

A Panel Discussion on the Performance and Workplace Impacts of Gender-Balanced Teams 

Please join us for an interactive panel discussion on the performance and workplace impacts of gender-balanced teams relating to the CFA Institute's initiative to foster a more gender-diverse financial sector. The panel will deliberate on serveral thought-provoking topics surrounding gender diversity (GD) in finance and investments including: investment performance, attitudes towards risk-taking, hiring and promoting, and balancing career aspirations and family life. You will leave the event with new and relevant information on where diversity in finance has been and where it is headed.

Speaker Biographies

Timothy E. Burt, CFA - Cardinal Capital Management Inc., Founder

With nearly 40 years of experience in the industry, Tim burt is one of the most respected investment professionals in Canada. Since joining the investment department of a large Illinois bank in 1974, Tim has served as a security analyst for brokerage firms in St. Louis and Minneapolis; worked as Richardson Greenshields' senior U.S. equities analyst; and managed the U.S. stock portfolio for London Life Insurance Company. Tim founded Cardinal in 1992. In addition to his Chartered Financial Analyst designation, Tim has a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Finance from the University of Illinois. He has served as president of the Winnipeg Society of Financial Analysts (now CFA Society Winnipeg) and of the Portfolio Management Association of Canada (previously ICAC).

Stefanie Keller, CFP - Keller Financial and Business Planning

Stefanie has been successfully managing client's wealth planning and implementing business strategies since 2002. She built a strong foundation in Financial Planning and Asset Management during her career with RBC Wealth Management and Credential Asset Management, both as an Advisor and as a Mentor, before founding Keller Financial & Business Planning in 2012. Stefanie holds her Professional CFP designation and specializes in working with Small Business Owners and their families. She strongly beieves in the Standards of Professional Responsibility and Code of Conduct set out by the Financial Planning Standars Council. To this end, she was appointed as the Public Policy Ambassador for the Province of Manitoba in 2016 to work with our government leaders to promote financial literacy and consumer protection. She contributes to the advancement of the industry and was selected to assist with the examination/certification of new CFP Candidates and participate in the Technical Knowledge Development for the CFP Professional Competency Model and the Professional Sub-Group for Business Applications. Stefanie is an Affiliate with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and is currently working on her Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation. She is also the Circle Leader/Founder of Lean In Winnipeg and Area, a worldwide network of professional women supporting and advocating for professional women. Stefanie is passionate about promoting diversity and equal opportunity in the workplace and the community.

Ruth Ann McConkey, CFA - GLC Asset Management Group Ltd, President

As President of GLC, Ruth Ann oversees all of the GLC's investment professionals, having overall responsibility for the investment management and business operations of GLC. Before her appointment as President of GLC, Ruth Ann held direct portfolio management roles in equity, fixed income and commercial real estate investments, and most recently was President of London Capital Management. Ruth Ann is a CFA Charter Holder and has an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (finance major) from the University of Western Ontario.

Jamie See - TD Securities, Director, Credit Trading

Jamie has over a decade's worth of capital markets experience at TD Securities in Sales & Trading. Her career began as a foreign exchange trader during the financial crises in London, England. After returning to Canada, Jamie's focus turned to fixed income where she joined the Securitization Trade Group. There she was part of the team that brought Canada's inaugural NHA MBS syndicated transaction to market. More recently Jamie's mandate has expanded to include corporate credit trading with a focus on the financial sector. At TD Securities, she is a member of the TD Securities Women In Leadership Committee and the Sales & Trading Campus Recruiting Team. Jamie graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is the former Chair of the Toronto Bond Traders' Association (only the 2nd woman in the Association's 85 years history to hold the position).
