Advisors were nominated by NAPA firm partners and their peers and completed an application process. Honorees were selected by a panel of judges based on their individual experience, contributions, and business composition. List makers were honored in four separate categories: All-Stars, Captains, MVPs, and Rising Stars. As defined by NAPA: All-Stars: Top producers who have their own books Captains: All-Stars who are principals, owners, or team captains of their organizations MVPs: Outstanding players who are part of a team Rising Stars: Advisors with less than five years’ experience with retirement plans (some have been working with plans longer, but not as advisors). Employee Benefit Adviser’s annual list honors standout benefit advisors under the age of 35 with a five-year track record of demonstrating fresh talent and making a difference in the benefits industry. This year, winners were selected based on criteria including rate of industry participation, client size, and retention, as well as community service and other examples of an overall commitment to service excellence. Investment News 40 Under 40: The second annual “40 Under 40” project spotlights 40 dynamic honorees, all under age 40, who were selected from a pool of approximately 1,200 nominees by a panel of reporters, editors, and other representatives of InvestmentNews. Winners were chosen based on their level of accomplishment, contribution to the financial advice industry, leadership, and promise for the future. Birmingham Business Journal's top 40 under 40 recognizes young professionals in Birmingham, based on their contributions to their company, their impact on the business world, and their role in the community.The Top Women Advisors list was created by NAPA to recognize the growing number of women who are making significant contributions to the retirement plan industry. Approximately 500 nominations were received, and more than 1,500 votes were cast in support of these individuals. In 2016, Honorees were selected by a panel of judges based on criteria such as, a candidate's percent revenues derived from retirement plans, total plan assets under management/advisement, years of experience working with workplace retirement plans, regulatory compliance record, and credentials. The criteria used, the number of advisors considered for the award, and the percentage of those who receive the award may vary from year to year. Votes were utilized to break ties, if applicable. List makers were honored in three separate categories: All-Stars, Captains, and Rising Stars1. The nominated advisor need not be a NAPA member.
