Watch the America's Cup, hear a lecture, enjoy a BBQ with other race enthusiasts.
We have an exciting and fun day planned for June 25th. The America's Cup race will be in Bermuda this year and we will have a live feed of this epic event!
We are forntunate to also have Andrew Wilson, historian, sailor and librarian at The New York Public Library on hand to speak to us about the America's Cup race and Staten Island's connection with the event. Here is an example of one of the historic events.
Tradegy at the Stapleton Anchorage - The Sinking of the Mohawk
1876 was the last year schooners were raced in the America's Cup and the sinking is credited with the general demise of the large centerboard schooner as a yacht design. The Mohawk was later raised and renamed Eagre serving as a Coast Survey ship. Commodore Garner's mansion at Castleton and Bard Avenues is now part of Richmond University Medical Center and has long been under consideration for historic landmarking.
Tickets to view the race, and enjoy the lecture and BBQ are $40 per person.
