Assessment and Manual Therapy Course for Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization

Program Description
This course is for the practitioner who already has a basic understanding of DNS exercises, and wants a more thorough description of how to apply those positions. This course will focus on providing practitioners with a deeper understanding of the DNS Assessment and its utility in providing a framework for specific manual therapy techniques, as well as specific exercise prescription. This course will be aimed at analysis of DNS screening and examination procedures so that treatment plans can be individualized for each and every patient. An emphasis will be placed on Assessment and Soft Tissue techniques versus exercises.

*PLEASE NOTE: DNS Part A completion is required for Assessment and Manual Therapy Course for DNS

Format
The program content will be presented in both a lecture and laboratory format.

Course Objectives
At the completion of the course the student will:

  • Understand the role of the assessment as an audit process for manual therapy and exercise prescription
  • Understand the focus of soft tissue techniques in relationship to the use of developmental positions in DNS
  • Understand the importance of the interaction of the CNS and the musculo-skeleto-facial system and the improvement of perception and movement
  • Understand the importance of restoring mobility and mobilizing various components of the rib cage and axial spine for improving respiratory strategies including the restoration of cervical and pelvic posture
  • Understand the importance of assessing and mobilizing different components at the four primary joint complexes of the humero/scapular and the coxo/ pelvic region, and the peripheral joint complexes

Course Goals
To provide a brief review of the rehabilitation process

To provide a background for the, utilization of manual tools and their relationship to the audit process in clinical decision making

To consider implementing manual techniques that can benefit the goal of augmenting and facilitating DNS (or other) rehabilitative approaches in affecting the psycho- somatic unit represented in the patient

Examples of practical application of the manual techniques and the utilization of the DNS approach to influence the outcome of the rehabilitation process
