2017 Individual Match Play League

Match Play is a competitive format where, instead of keeping track of each of your strokes for the round, you keep track of the holes that you win or lose.  The player who wins the most holes, wins the match!  Many players find Match Play to be a fun way to compete since one “blow-up hole” doesn’t mean you’re out of the match.   This is also great preparation for our future Lone Star Cup and EWGA Cup teams, which are match play formats.

(For official match play details, visit the USGA’s website and read up on Rule 2.)

uently Asked Questions

I’ve never played Individual Match Play.  Is that ok?

Yes!  This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the format.  League members will also have  the opportunity to attend an orientation and rules meeting (date and time to be announced later).

How many matches will I get to play?

You are guaranteed at least two matches, but may play as many as five matches.

Who will I play against?

Initial pairings for Round One will be based on handicaps.   For the remaining rounds, your opponent is determined based on the winners and losers of the other matches.

For example, if you win your match in Round One, and “Brenda Birdiemaker” in your flight also wins  her match, you will play each other in Round Two and have a chance to advance to Round Three.  If  you lose your match in Round One, and “Sarah Shanker” also loses her match, you will play Sarah in  a consolation match.

Where will matches be played?

Before Round One and after each subsequent round, you’ll be notified of pairings for the upcoming matches.  You are responsible for contacting your opponent for each round and arranging a tee time   on a course that is acceptable to both players.

What if I win my match?

Yeah you!  You get to move on to the next round and play again. Place in the top three for your flight and you’ll win a nice prize!

What if I lose my first match?

It’s not over!  You still get the chance to play for 3rd place in the consolation bracket for your flight.

What if my opponent and I can’t find a time to play before the deadline for the round?

It’s vital that all players complete their matches during the allotted time in order for the competition  to move forward.  If you absolutely cannot find a mutually agreeable time to play your match, one player will need to forfeit.  We cannot extend the matches to more than the time given to complete your match (2 weekends between rounds).
