TOPIC:  Ethics - OPR and Circular 230

Seminar Description:  This month's seminar will focus on  the ethical foundation of practice and will discuss the role of the Office of Professional Responsibility and our responsibilities under Circular 230.   

Learning Objectives:

  • Why do we study ethics?
  • What are the concepts of Deontology and Utilitarianism and how do they relate to tax practice?
  • What are the due diligence obligations of tax professionals?
  • How can we avoid and deal with potential conflicts of interest situations?
  • What are the Circular 230 considerations related to practitioner fees?
  • What are our other obligations under Circular 230?
  • What is the role of the OPR?

OUR FEATURED SPEAKER

Don Rosenberg, EA
Don Rosenberg has been an enrolled agent for more than 20 years. His practice includes business and individual tax returns, business write-ups and taxpayer representation. He is an adjunct lecturer at CUNY's Hostos Community College in the Bronx, NY.

He has served NAEA as an NTPI Level 2 instructor for 10 years and has trained many NTPI Fellows. He has chaired the SSLA Leadership Academy Advisory Board and is past president of the NYSSEA. He is a Leadership Academy graduate, an NPTI Fellow, former chair of the NTPI Planning Committee and has served as a consultant to the Educating America Implementation Task Force and as a member of the Tax Prep Committee. He is currently serving as a Director on the NAEA Board.

His office, Donald Rosenberg & Associates, Inc. is located in Yorktown Height, NY.
