Morning Keynote

Beth Kanter

The Happy Healthy Nonprofit: Strategies for Impact Without Burnout

Author and Thought Leader, Beth Kanter, will share the latest thinking from her new book, The Happy Healthy Nonprofit. As nonprofits we are fueled by our passion for our organization's mission, but we often work long hours, have too much to do, and not enough time to take care of ourselves. What if things were different? What if we all prioritized taking care ourselves and the people in our organizations by creating a culture of wellbeing? Self-care is not a solo practice, it also must be nurtured in the workplace.

This interactive keynote will cover:

  • The sources of burnout in many nonprofit organizations that boards and senior leaders can avoid
  • Learn the best stress reduction strategies for yourself and your fundraising team
  • How to bring wellbeing into your organization's workplace and raise more money

Luncheon Keynote

Scott Lange

The Future Isn't What It Used to Be

In this session, Scott Lange will review the most recent Giving USA results  and trends related to philanthropy and couple that with a discussion of venture  philanthropy, impact investing, and the increasing role technology plays in  messaging, engaging and giving.

As philanthropy continues to increase, what was state of the art is now old  school, what was cutting edge for early adaptors quickly becomes standard  practice and innovations are continual.  So these are exciting times to be  involved in the philanthropic arena.  Successful professionals will be those among us who listen, plan, adapt, execute and re-invent in a continual cycle.  Simultaneously to be effective, we fundraising professionals must be committed to the mission and vision of the organizations we represent and the people and clients they serve.

This conversation is designed to keep us awake after lunch.  Scott’s presentation will combine statistics and anecdotes that reinforce the message.

Two days of pre-conference programming will also be occurring, the CFRE review course August 28 & 29 and Fundraising 101 & 102 on August 29.

Gateway Conference on Philanthropy - August 30
7:30 am - 4:15 pm (with Happy Hour until 5:30 pm)  at St. Charles Convention Center

  • $140 for AFP members ($165 after July 14)
  • $185 for non-members ($210 after July 14)

CFRE Refresher Course (formerly CFRE Review Course) – August 28 & 29
8:00am - 4:30pm both days at St. Charles Convention Center

AFP’s CFRE review course offers advanced fundraising professionals an opportunity to review the main elements of a comprehensive fundraising program.  It is an intense, two day course designed to review the skills, techniques and program components professionals should have mastered at the five-year level.  It is the most effective way to prepare for the CFRE exam.

  • AFP Members: $400
  • Non-Members: $500

Participation in the AFP CFRE Refresher Course may assist you in learning or reviewing concepts covered on the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) examination as detailed on the Test Content Outline provided by CFRE International. However, the AFP CFRE Refresher Course is not designed specifically as a prep course for the exam.  It is designed to provide a review of concepts one should know at the five-year experience level.

AFP highly recommends that this refresher course be just one of the resources you use in preparing to take the CFRE exam.  Your study should also include reading books that appear on the CFRE Resource Reading List.

Registration is now closed for this class.

Fundraising 101 & 102- August 29

8:30am - 4:00pm at St. Charles Convention Center

  • Non-Members: 125
  • Young Professional or Collegiate Chapter Member: $85
