What Is Sufism?

Are you curious about Sufism?
Join us for an introduction to Inayati Sufism.

What is this class?
An exploration to increase understanding of Inayati Sufism.
  • A bit of information about its history, organization and  practices.
  • Some guided meditations and some chanting typical of our practices.
  • Q&A!

What is Inayati?
It refers to Hazrat Inayat Kahn, who first brought Sufism from India to the west in the early 1900s.

What's different about Inayatiyya, compared to other Sufi groups?
  • There are numerous groups practicing and teaching Sufism.
  • Hazrat Inayat Kahn's direction was to spread the message of Love, Harmony and Beauty.
  • He also stressed that this group is interfaith. People of every religion are represented, along with people who profess no religion.

About the Teacher
  • A student and supporter of the Inayati Order
  • A coordinator (someone who teaches, and offers classes and gatherings)
  • and a Healing Conductor (someone who offers Gatherings for Healing) in Philadelphia
    .
  • In training to be a 'Representative,' (someone who can be a personal spiritual mentor)
  • and a 'Cherag,' (someone who offers Universal Worship services, weddings, dedications, etc.)
  • A member of the local Greater Philadelphia Group led by Telema Hess, and of the Scranton group, Inner Voice, led by Dawn Majida Gowins.

There is no charge...but you may make a free will offering which will be forwarded to the Inayatiyya to support the spreading of the Message of Love, Harmony and Beauty.
