Working with LGBTQ+ Youth

Description:

In this workshop, you will be provided a historical context of LGBTQ+ communities around the world, learn new LGBTQ+ terminology, discuss challenges and successes with providing culturally proficient care to LGBTQ+ youth, as well as understand concepts of intersectionality, privilege and allyship as they relate to the work we do.

Biography:

Aamer Esmail is the Newcomer Community Engagement Coordinator with Supporting Our Youth (SOY) at Sherbourne Health Centre and is the Associate Director for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. He previously worked as Manager for Settlement, Youth and LGBTQ Services at Access Alliance, a community health centre in Toronto. For over 15 years, Aamer has been working in programs and initiatives that focus on LGBTQ+ immigrant and refugee communities. This has ranged from leading community projects, to managing direct services, and to training organizations and community members.

The 2017-2018 CPRI Professional Education workshops are expected to fill quickly and many sell out.  Register early to avoid disappointment.  Pre-registration with payment is required to secure a space.
