The GLBT Host Home Program's 20th Anniversary
Please join us for a community wide celebration honoring the 20th anniversary of the GLBT Host Home Program! For twenty years the GLBT Host Home Program has been connecting community members to support GLBTQ youth experiencing homelessness – it’s time to honor all youth, hosts and community members who have made these years possible.
Enjoy a tasty meal (catered by Café Southside), play some yard games and watch or participate in karaoke at Powderhorn Park on Saturday, September 16 from 1 – 5 pm. The celebration is free and open to anyone who has supported, taken part in, or just likes the GLBT Host Home Program. We hope to see current and past youth and hosts there!
About the GLBT Host Home Program
The GLBT Host Home Program was created in 1997 out of a grassroots effort to address GLBTQ youth homelessness. Originally hosted at YouthLink, it moved to Avenues for Homeless Youth in January 2007.
The program is a transformative and intimate approach to providing gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) youth who are experiencing homelessness with homes and support. We have intentionally kept this program small and non-institutional, with up to 10 youth participating at a time. All youth who participate in our program are queer-identified and the majority are people of color.
