Building High-Quality Career Pathways: Learning from Switzerland and the World

This interactive two-day workshop will allow participants to learn more about the Denver Public Schools CareerConnect model and how you can implement elements in your school district or organization. CareerConnect is a pathway of school- and work-based experiential learning opportunities for students, preparing them for life and work. In particular, you will learn more about the CareerResidency Youth Apprenticeship Program, the capstone experience of CareerConnect, deployed in partnership with CareerWise Colorado.  Adapted from the proven Swiss model, this new system provides high school students with apprenticeship opportunities and industry certifications while they pursue high school diplomas and earn college credits. Experts from around the world will also share lessons from their career and technical education (vocational) systems. Attendees will learn about:

  • What makes a high-quality career pathway?
  • CareerResidency Youth Apprenticeship Programs
  • How to engage parents and the community
  • Teacher recruitment and training
  • Dual credits/industry credentials
  • Building a work-based learning continuum

In addition, there will be opportunities to visit student apprentices in their places of work (on Thursday, November 9).

Cost to attend the workshop is free. However, attendees must pay for their own travel costs. Space is limited, please register before October 15, 2017.
