This year’s 2017 LiveTalk Series will take on a new look as we offer a new evening lecture format. For this year, instead of our usual discussion format, we will offer an hour lecture on review of the literature on a given topic related to sensory integration and evidence-based practice. Our goal this year is to update you on the latest research in specific areas of practice related to sensory integration and to facilitate translation of this research to evidence-based clinical practice. EBP involves assessment and integration of many types of research evidence and this series will present research from all areas of EBP practice. We hope that you will join us for this exciting new series.

Play is an essential occupation of childhood. Unfortunately a child’s ability to play is often disrupted when the child has sensory integration and processing problems. In addition, therapists often use play as a modality to promote functioning on other areas but rarely address play as an occupation in treatment. This live talk will present the evidence for the relationship between play and sensory integration functioning, discuss the evidence on play skills of children with SPD and autism and address the evidence for improving and addressing play within a sensory integration framework.
