The DDA and The National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities at the University of Delaware are excited to announce a rare opportunity to participate in a week-long, intensive leadership development program with leaders of other DDA funded agencies to learn from each other and from leading experts from across the country to embrace the shift to individualized, responsive supports for people with disabilities.  The skills, knowledge and values developed through participation in the Maryland Leadership Institute will be essential to make quality lives and meaningful community inclusion a priority for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This Leadership program is being offered to teams of leaders from DDA funded agencies November 12-17, 2017, at the Maritime Institute near BWI.  We are inviting you to apply to send a team of your top 3-4 leaders (including the agency Executive Director) to take advantage of this important week- long event.

The University of Delaware will bring their highly-rated program that will support current and emerging leaders to transform supports in Maryland for people who have a developmental disability. Guest speakers and self-advocates from Maryland will be added to supplement an agenda of compelling workshops and presentations.

The expected outcomes of the Maryland Leadership Institute include:  Assessing and building your own strengths as a leader, exploring new service models,  managing and sustaining transformational change, building positive organizational culture and developing "next in line" leaders within your organization.

Target Audience:  Each agency is invited to have a team of 3-4 leaders apply to participate.  Participation is limited to 36 attendees, so select who within your organization will participate and be ready to apply soon.  The team must include the Executive Director (unless he/she has already completed the program).  Teams should include 2-3 additional top agency staff.  Each team member needs to complete his or her own application.  Participants will be selected through an application process administered by the University of Delaware. The application deadline is  September 9, 2017.

Agencies will be requested to send a deposit upon approval of each team member's application and will be requested to send a final payment a month prior to attending the event. After successful completion of the 5 - day program, Agency teams will be reimbursed for the full cost of the Institute (ie., sleeping rooms, conference fee, and all meals).

Here's what others have said about the Leadership Institue:                    In January 2017 I was a participant in the 44th class of the University of Delaware Leadership Institute. I joined an amazing group of inspiring leaders.  The opportunity to connect with and share experiences with peers was outstanding.  There was a joint sense of purpose. We left with the sincere belief that we could make a difference individually and as a group.  I was motivated to embrace so many more options related to structuring our organization and encouraging more independence and control by people who participate in our programs. If any leaders want to jump-start their creativity and build their leadership skills, I would highly recommend the Leadership Institute.                                                                                                              -- Rob Malone, Executive Director, The Arc Prince George's County

The Leadership Institute provides an excellent opportunity to individuals in executive/ management positions to broaden their knowledge in areas of history and policy changes in the IDD community coupled with excellent lecture and interactive engagement from experts in the field: this is by far the most worthwhile professional activity I have experienced.                                    --Cindy Parr, Executive Director, Arc of Howard County

The Leadership Institute lifts leaders to a higher level of thinking!                     --Melonee Clark, Support Broker, Shared Support Maryland, Inc

An Invigorating experience that rejuvenates your heart, soul and mind to bring about change.                                                                                                       --Patricia Sastoque, Deputy Director of Programs, Maryland Developmental     Disabilities Administration
