- The Release of a New Study -

Survivability in the Digital Age:
The Imperative for Stealth

Opening remarks by:
Sen Mike Rounds, South Dakota

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies’ new study provides an unclassified assessment regarding the long-term viability of stealth technology, including a review of counter stealth capabilities.

Ever since F-117 Stealth Fighters attacked Baghdad on the opening night of Operation Desert Storm, stealth technology has stood as a pillar in America’s arsenal. Stealth is and continues to be a central tenet of aircraft survivability—now and in the future air combat environment. The ability to project power, without exposing undue vulnerability is a tremendous advantage for the United States at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels. However, with twenty-five years having passed since those famed night time raids, it is time to assess how stealth fits into the equation for today and tomorrow.
