Michael Huntley

Michael Huntley, formerly with the City of Montebello, is the new Economic and Planning Director for Monterey Park.
He came on board in the last week of October after leaving a highly tumultuous position in Montebello that experienced controversy over housing development, oil drilling and city financial conditions.
In Monterey Park he will also serve as special assistant to the City Manager.

 
Michael Forbes
is the Community Development Director for the City of Temple City, where he manages the city’s planning, building, code enforcement, engineering, and public works programs. Michael has over 18 years of city planning experience, including three years in Temple City. Prior to joining Temple City in 2014, Michael served as City Planner for the City of Glendora and Assistant Community Development Director for the City of Burbank. Michael has a degree in Urban Geography from UCLA and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.


Angelica Frausto-Lupo
is the Economic Development Manager for the city of San Gabriel. She has over 20 years of experience in economic and workforce development. She has worked for the cities of Santa Ana, Pasadena and Burbank. Prior to joining San Gabriel in June 2015, Angelica worked for the city of Whittier for nine years where she helped transform a sleepy downtown into a thriving restaurant scene and secured several national credit tenants for the city's main commercial corridor. She wrote the economic development strategy for the city of Whittier as well as developed a Local Economic Stimulus and Business Assistance Plan to help businesses during the recession. The success of the Plan resulted in the city being named the “Most Business Friendly City in Los Angeles County” in the category of large cities by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation in November 2012. Angelica has a Master’s in Public Administration from California State University of Northridge and Bachelor’s in Sociology from Cal State Los Angeles.


Paul Cheng

A managing partner of a team of distinguished attorneys in Pasadena, California, Mr. Cheng has extensive legal experience in small to large business operations and commercial real estate transactions. He has counseled individuals and businesses at all levels in a variety of transactional and litigation matters, including contract, landlord-tenant, land use, employment, franchise law, fraud, identity-theft, business immigration, civil rights violations, products liability, trademark violation, construction defect and general torts.
Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Cheng was a Deputy City Attorney/City Prosecutor/Mediator with the City of Hesperia, California. He wants to bring his many years of professional, community, and educational experience to help the council solve these problems.
Mr. Cheng obtained a B.A. degree in Philosophy from the University of California, Los Angeles and a J.D. degree from Southwestern University School of Law.
Mr. Cheng was also a candidate for the 2010 Arcadia City Council. He is past President of the Arcadia Kiwanis Club (2007-2008). He has traveled extensively through Asia and is a frequent lecturer at the universities there. He was a guest lecturer at Beijing University's School of International Studies. He is fluent in Mandarin.

Michael  W. Brooks
, Esq. is a 20 year, California-licensed tax attorney.  Michael is the President of Domestic and International Real Estate Closing Tax Services ("DIRECTS") (www.directsllp.com), a company which focuses exclusively on preparing the tax forms required of non-U.S. sellers of U.S./California real estate. He has offices in Arcadia and Palm Desert.


Phil Atwan
is the Senior Vice President of Exchange Resources, and is also one of the Founders. He speaks to more financial, real estate, and legal professionals about 1031 Tax Deferred Exchanges than probably anyone in the country. Phil is featured at approximately 150 educational seminars per year, hosted by financial planning organizations, escrow associations, CPA and EA tax groups, bar associations, and real estate companies in the greater Los Angeles area through San Luis Obispo County. 

His reach extends across the nation. Industry-related professionals and real estate investors from New York to Seattle to Southern California call him to learn about the rules of code section 1031 and how to defer capital gain taxes. Phil enjoys and thrives on assisting and educating people about 1031 Exchanges.  He also speaks regularly at Board of REALTORS® continuing education functions, and has long served in various Board of Director and official capacities for the Escrow Associates of the San Gabriel Valley.

Phil began his career in 1982 in marketing and sales with a large title insurance company, and transitioned to a 1031 Tax Deferred Exchange focus in 1998. He grew up in Pasadena, California, and now lives in Whittier where he and his wife enjoy their three children and three grandchildren.


John Shipman is a nationally recognized thought leader in green real estate and a pioneer in training and mentoring real estate professionals on green homes and energy efficiency. He has trained more than 1,000 real estate professionals in green real estate and green building fundamentals. In 2014, the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) awarded him with its national Evergreen Award and named him its NAR Green Instructor of the Year.
For Build It Green’s Southern California Region, Shipman oversees all program implementation, outreach, partnership, and business development activities. He is committed to expanding BIG’s work to support underserved communities.
“My passion is helping people live healthier lives and creating opportunities for them to make our world a better place—for today and for future generations,” says Shipman, who brings an infectious energy and enthusiasm to Build It Green.
For more than 25 years, Shipman has worked as a sustainability consultant and his green experience includes a unique mix of roles: real estate agent, remodeling contractor, educator, business consultant, and community outreach leader. Before joining Build It Green, Shipman was managing partner of Energy Efficiency Management, Inc. and Director of Green Operations for Coldwell Banker George Realty.
Shipman is a frequent speaker at national conferences and he has been featured in numerous articles and interviews including the Los Angeles Times and REALTOR® Magazine. He holds a BA in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
