Teenpower Safety and Self-Defense Workshop for teens ages 13-17 in Berkeley, CA

NOTE: For private in-house training purposes, we might be recording parts of your workshop so that this can be used to help train other instructors.

Although backs of students' heads might appear as part of segments of videos shared publicly, we will NOT share publicly faces of your child(ren)'s or your faces without your permission. A MEDIA RELEASE WAIVER will be sent in the registration confirmation email in case this is okay with you.  Even with permission, we will not share publicly last names of students, their location, or any personal information.

“I argued with my parents about going, but I’m glad I went. Now, if someone tries to bother me, I’ll be more able to protect myself.”

This workshop gives teens focused practice in using boundary-setting, conflict resolution, self-protection, and self-defense skills to prevent and stop most attacks, bullying, and harassment.

Teens practice using “People Safety” skills to prevent, manage, or leave potentially unsafe situations with people. “People Safety” skills help prevent violence and improve communication at home, at school, out in the world, online.... everywhere, with everyone.

Using examples relevant to the lives of teenagers, we’ll practice skills to:

  • Notice possible problems & respond quickly
  • Deal with peer pressure & bullying
  • Make safe choices with strangers
  • Stay safe from verbal attack
  • Stop unwanted attention
  • Set clear, appropriate boundaries
  • Act aware, calm, and confident
  • Manage emotional triggers
  • Get help from adults - and persist!
  • Say ‘no’ in ways that are effective & practical
  • Prevent problems from escalating into fights
  • Use physical self-defense appropriately: this class includes full-force physical self-defense practice with a head-to- toe padded instructor

We encourage parents and caregivers to attend the last half hour of our Teenpower Workshops to observe their teens demonstrating the skills they learned!

Workshop Fee: $140/teen
Pre-registration is required as there is limited space.

This workshop is not appropriate for infants or children younger than 13.

Donations over the amount of workshop fees are tax-deductible. We do not turn anyone away from our public workshops for lack of money. Scholarship information is available on our website.
