Eucharistic Visitor Training Cathedral of St Paul Boston 9.16.17

A Eucharistic Visitor is a lay person authorized to take the Sacred Elements consecrated at a celebration of the Holy Eucharist on Sundays or other regularly scheduled Celebrations to members of the congregation who, by reason of illness or infirmity, were unable to be present at the celebration. This training provides the needed licensing to be a Eucharistic Visitor in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts.

Qualifications for Eucharisitc Visitors are: a desire to participate in this ministry, willingness to undergo the necessary training, and ability to carry out the duties of a Eucharistic Visitor, including entering the home or hospital room of an ill or infirm person, leading a brief service and administering the Sacrament with reverence.

Persons taking this training also need the permission of local clergy in order to exercise this minnistry. Local clergy should notify the Cathredral office in writing (attn Ethel Crawford, elc@diomass.org) to have names added as licensed Eucharistic Visitors.

This training will cover such topics as:

  • Understanding the Ministry of Eucharistic Visitors
  • Pastoral Issues and Management
  • Church practices and canons
  • Details and best practices of a home Eucharisitc Visit

Participants are encouraged to bring Home Communion Kits if they have them.

Beverages will be provided, but please bring a brown bag lunch.

If you are interested in hosting Eucharistic Visitor Training at your parish or becoming a trainer, please contact Connie Melahoures at conmel@aol.com.
