Once Upon A Time...The End: Storytelling with Children

Saturday November 4, 2017       Time 10:30 am – 3:00 pm       4 hours

Fee: $65.00     FCC Fee: $50.00 (Promo Code)

The world is made up of stories, not atoms. The whole universe is one great conversation, which goes on through the telling of stories; and it is this great conversation that holds us all together. You'll participate in a series of scaffolded storytelling experiences, with feedback and discussion, through which you'll learn about why, how, and when to tell stories and what kinds of stories to tell. During this workshop you'll learn to integrate storying and storytelling into your work with children, as you help them make meaning of themselves and their lives.

Objectives:

Everyone is a storyteller. Narrative is a primary act of mind, a basic, pervasive way of organizing human experience. In this dynamic, practical workshop you'll learn:

  • To discuss why we tell stories.
  • To explore how to tell stories and how to support children in telling stories.
  • To discover what kinds of stories to tell—from personal stories, to family stories, to the various kinds of stories of others that we call literature.

*Suitable for parents, students, novice, intermediate and experienced early learning child care professionals working with children of any age from infant/toddler, preschool to school age children, including children with extra support needs.

Presenter: Meguido Zola. Following K-12 school-teaching in various parts of the world, Meguido has served as a consultant, teacher-educator, and professor in the Faculty of Education, SFU.  His work has focused on children's language and literacy. Meguido is a professional storyteller and award-winning writer as well as editor of children's books.  In addition he is also a certified professional life and executive coach, focusing on young and youthful clients who are looking for more.

*Bring a bag lunch ( hour lunch).

*Come prepared to tell (from your face!) a personal story or two or three for children.
