Your Trainer:

Kathy Michelich has served as an Extension Educator in Warren County for 25 years. She specializes in resource management and has developed curriculum, written lesson plans, and teaching weekly at the work force development center. Primarily, she teaches life skills, including basic money management and consumerism, to low-income individuals.  She is the coordinator for Real Money. Real World. (RMRW), a state-wide youth financial literacy program that includes a series of classroom lessons and a hands on spending simulation that gives young people the opportunity to make financial choices similar to those they will make as adults.  Over 20,000 youth in 76 counties experienced RMRW in 2014.

She is the author of the 2013 curriculum Tough Work – Understanding and Serving People in Poverty While Caring for Yourself that addresses demands on Social service delivery staff and community volunteers struggling with the increase of poverty.

 

 


 

Tough Work:
Understanding and Serving People in Poverty while Caring for Yourself

Participants will better understand poverty: its causes, the types of poverty, and regional characteristics of poverty. They will gain skills to work effectively with people in financial crisis. Specific techniques to protect and maintain a healthy attitude and avoid burn-out when working with people in poverty will be covered. Participants will be better equipped to provide direct assistance and appropriate referrals to families in need. 

Target Audience: Training provides information and support to equip volunteers and agency staff who regularly work with people in poverty. 

CEUs: 2.75 Social Work CEUs are provided by the Butler County Educational Service Center approved & awarded by the Ohio Social Worker Board Approval RSX050901. 

Cost: $35.00 per participant payable via check, credit card or purchase order.
