Just minutes north of the Galleria, the Junior League is conveniently located off Loop 610. 

If traveling North on 610:
Exit San Felipe. Turn right (east) on San Felipe (0.5 mi.). Turn left (north) on Briar Oaks Lane (0.2 mi.). The Junior League is on the right. 

If traveling South on 610:
Exit Post Oak Blvd. Turn left (east) on Post Oak Blvd. Turn right (south) on Post Oak Park Drive (0.2 mi.). Turn left (east) on Post Oak Place Drive (0.2 mi.). Turn right (south) on Briar Oaks Lane. The Junior League is on the left.

John Lopez Scholarship

Dr. John (Johnny) Lopez was a well-known and beloved dentist from Beaumont, Texas who passed away in 2006. He was a native of Jefferson County and practiced dentistry in Beaumont for forty-one years. He attended Lamar University, The University of Texas Dental School, and became a Fellow of General Dentistry. Money donated in his memory launched HBIDA’s scholarship fund for teachers and parents to attend our conferences. 

Please contact the registrar if you need a scholarship to attend the conference.

Rick Lavoie has served as an administrator of residential programs for children with special needs since 1972. He holds three degrees in Special Education and has served as an adjunct professor or visiting lecturer at numerous universities including Syracuse, Harvard, Gallaudet, Manhatanville College, University of Alabama, and Georgetown. His numerous national television appearances include CBS Morning Show, Good Morning America, ABC Evening News, and Disney Channel Presents.

Kerry Yonushonis

Island Chains: Creating Connections

Kerry Yonushonis is a marathon swimmer, motivational speaker, psychotherapist, undiagnosed dyslexic, and mother of a son with dyslexia. Despite struggling in school her whole life, she graduated from college and earned two master’s degrees. When Kerry wanted to show her son how “determination, persistence, and grit” could enable him to overcome his dyslexia, she successfully completed a solo, open ocean swim of 22 miles across the Catalina Channel in California. Her successful swim is an inspiration of courage and a powerful example to others about overcoming adversity.
