Black Ties and French Fries is a family-friendly gala that raises funds to support programs at Center for Child Counseling to heal the effects of toxic stress and trauma for babies and young children.
In the past year, Center for Child Counseling served over 2,400 vulnerable young children in Palm Beach County who were the victims of violence, abuse, and other traumatic situations no child should have to endure.
We helped children like 3-year-old Thomas. Thomas entered our Childhood Trauma Response Program with a history of neglect, malnourishment, seizures due to starvation, exposure to domestic violence and substance abuse, memories of being locked in closets, and being physically abused. Thomas had severe behavioral problems at school and in his foster home, experiencing night terrors every night.
After 10 months of Trauma-Focused Play Therapy, Thomas was finally able to express emotions and memories of the trauma. He conveyed these memories to his therapist through a touching metaphor in his play…a mama bird forgetting to feed her baby bird. He safely worked through these memories in session, completing the healing process. Thomas is now a healthier, happier young boy, with a much brighter future.
