A BOOK TALK by John Paraskevopoulos

Call of the Infinite: The Way of Shin Buddhism

Australia-based author discusses Japanese Pure Land Buddhism

On Friday, August 18, 2017, 7 pm – 8:30 pm, Australia-based Shin Buddhist priest, and author, John Paraskevopoulos, will discuss his celebrated work, Call of the Infinite – The Way of Shin Buddhism, as well as his other works, The Fragrance of Light, and The Unhindered Path, at the Jodo Shinshu Center, 2140 Durant Avenue, Berkeley, CA. BCA Bookstore manager, Gayle Noguchi will be moderating.

Shin Buddhism is a Japanese Pure Land Buddhist school, the most prevalent Buddhist tradition in Japan, still largely unknown to Westerners.

The book talk is open to the public/Free admission.  Presented by the BCA Bookstore, Institute of Buddhist Studies, and BCA Center for Buddhist Education. Contact cbe@bcahq.org or phone (510) 809-1460.

This presentation of the Shin Buddhist teachings addresses universal spiritual concerns in a way that leaves readers reassured and wanting to know more. Paraskevopoulos’ writing is luminous and soothing, as if one were reading poetry. As a pioneer of Shin Buddhism in Australia, he offers fresh insights rarely seen in Japan. His treatment, in particular, of the importance of beauty to our spiritual life is inspirational.”
