10-26-17 Making the Grade in Algebra 1- No Fee

Speaker: Mark Helton

Target Audience:  Teachers of High School Algebra 1 in special education, alternative education, and general education settings; instructional coaches

Description: Passing Algebra 1 by the end of 9th grade is an important factor in persistence to graduation.  The focus of this Professional Learning Experience (PLE) will be on building teacher content knowledge and pedagogical skills in teaching Algebra 1; developing a system of supports for underprepared students in Algebra 1 classes; and focusing on student understanding of the processes, reasoning, and structure of the mathematics taught in Algebra 1.  Sessions will include modeling, discussion, whole group and small group work, networking, and the creation/sharing of resources.  For a more personalized learning experience, one-on-one follow-up coaching will be provided by CKEC during the academic year at the participant’s school.
