Helping challenging clients with early childhood wounds and dissociative symptoms through interventions by therapists Jim Knipe, George Fraser, Laurell Parnell, and other leaders in the field!
Join Annie Monaco and Elizabeth Davis as they assess dissociation techniques, discuss structural dissociation, procedural learning theory, and Play Therapy based activities. A toolkit of techniques and scripts for talking about trauma with children and parents will be provided to all attendees. Participants will engage in a sand tray and drawing directive play therapy activities to build affect tolerance and emotional literacy.
Learning Objectives:
- Perform an in depth attachment history to assess attachment wounds and disruptions
- Interpret “Meaning of Behaviors” using a consultation form
- Identify attachment symptoms, behaviors and trauma triggers and understand how this leads to dissociative symptoms
- Use brain science and window of tolerance to help clients understand their own reactive behaviors
- Differentiate dissociative symptoms, dissociative disorders and ego states
- Utilizing scales to determine dissociation: DES and Child Scales
- Utilize attachment repair interventions such as Parnell’s imaginal attachment figures and resourcing strategies
- Apply scripts to talk to parents, children and teens about trauma and dissociation
- Explain to parents their child’s problematic behaviors through the lens of dissociation
- Manage the symptoms of dissociation using interventions including Jim Knipe’s back of the head scale, orienting strategies, and Fraser's table
- Utilize play therapy to apply Fraser’s table to learn about ego parts
- Explore the use of sand tray play therapy and its benefits in assessing attachment wounds and disruptions
- Use drawing directive play therapeutic model to explore communication
- Apply 15 Effective Grounding and soothing tools to manage dissociative symptoms including scents and play therapy activities
- Provide an overview the four stage model of the play therapy process and how it directly relates to repairing attachment trauma
