Generational Perspectives on Retirement Saving
The retirement landscape is evolving rapidly. In recent years the DOL has increasingly focused its attention on how prepared retirement plan participants are for their retirement and ways in which plan sponsors can help improve participant outcomes. At the same time, workplace retirement benefits are playing an increasingly important role in helping people prepare financially for a comfortable retirement. To further complicate the situation, Baby Boomers, Generation X and Millennials face unique circumstances, have different perspectives, as well as expectations and motivations about saving for retirement. And yet, plan sponsors and fiduciaries are left with the daunting task of providing a benefit that meets the needs of all their employees regardless of their demographic, financial position or retirement readiness.
