About the South Hampton Roads Oral Health Forum
Virginia earned a C+ for oral health on the inaugural 2016 Virginia Oral Health Report Card. This grade demonstrates room for improvement in key areas such as prevention, coverage, collaboration, and health status. Furthermore, when we look closely at the Report Card indicators, significant disparities emerge by race, socioeconomic status, and geographic area.

To improve oral health for all Virginians, we need to assess oral health and overall health within each region using a health equity lens, and implement community-driven strategies to address our shared challenges. As such, the Virginia Oral Health Coalition is facilitating regional convenings across the commonwealth, including the South Hampton Roads region. Participants in the South Hampton Roads Oral Health Forum will have the opportunity to analyze regional data and engage in discussions in order to:

  • Reach a shared understanding of the oral health and overall health status of South Hampton Roads residents across the lifespan
  • Use data to determine shared priorities and collaborative strategies to work on together
  • Create the infrastructure to implement community-identified priorities and strategies

A formal agenda and any additional pre-meeting materials will be emailed prior to the convening.
