Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. Pilates called his method "Contrology." It is practiced worldwide, and especially in western countries such as Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. There are over 11 million people practicing the discipline regularly and 14,000 instructors in the United States.
The focus is on functional movement and giving you tools for daily life and its physical challenges.
Mats and exercise bands are provided. Bringing a small towel is optional but will come in handy for back and neck support. This is a "mat" class so participants must be able to change levels, i.e. be able to reach the floor and then come to standing without assistance. Pacing will be slow to moderate, and will adapt to the particpants' level of ability.
