The Future of Food

A food movement has emerged, affecting consumers attitudes, shopping behaviors, and policies surrounding food and agriculture.  The movement has drawn attention to concerns with modern commercial agriculture, from climate change to chemical use, animal welfare, and obesity, and leaders of the movement have offered policy solutions that are often antagonistic toward modern agricultural technologies. What are the origins of this food movement and where is it going?   And, who are the scientists, entrepreneurs, and progressive farmers who are innovating to create a food future that addresses the concerns of the food movement?

8:30 - 9:45 a.m.  Presentation and Panel Discussion hosted in conjunction with The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE)
Designing the Road out of Poverty: Ensuring Resource Access
The panel will address the critical role of water and energy in producing adequate food, and the competing demands for those resources. The World Food Prize highlights the efforts of many to ensure that we can feed the global population, both now and in the decades to come. The competition for resources is more and more recognized as a primary determinant of our ability to meet those future food needs.
