McKenzie Method - Part B: Cervical & Thoracic Spine

Course Overview
This 26.0 hour course presents the theoretical aspects and concepts of the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy, as applied in the examination and treatment of patients with complaints of neck and upper back and related referred pain.

The first 5.0 hours of the course is completed as an online Distance Learning Component*. The remaining 21.0 hours are with an Instructor at a teaching venue. 

Through lectures and patient demonstrations the derangement, dysfunction and postural syndromes are described in detail and appropriate treatment plans are outlined with emphasis on the use of patient self-treatment procedures.

The clinical efficacy and limitations of the McKenzie approach as applied to the cervical & thoracic spine are illustrated by follow-up patient demonstrations.

Course Goals
Following attentive participation in, and completion of, this course will provide participants with the introductory knowledge, basic skills and abilities to begin to:

  1. Appropriately apply the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy to patients with cervical & thoracic spine problems.
  2. Distinguish between the McKenzie syndromes (derangement, dysfunction, postural) and other spinal conditions and provide appropriate management regimens for each of the McKenzie syndromes.
  3. Identify when the application of external forces is required for the resolution of symptoms using McKenzie’s concept of progression of forces.
  4. Assist patients to design and apply the therapeutic processes to achieve management goals.

*Online Component
The 5.0 hour online component will be assigned ~2 weeks prior to the classroom session and must be completed prior to attending the classroom component. Upon registration you will be emailed the information necessary to complete the online hours. Therefore, it is suggested that you register as early as possible prior to each Part. 

Part A must be completed prior to Part B
Part A must be completed prior to Part C (completion of Part B is not a requirement to complete Part C as long as part A is complete)
Parts A, B & C must be completed prior to Part D 

Note: Parts A-D must be completed to sit for the credentialing exam in Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy (MDT).

Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing conducive for exercise for the practical portions of the course.

**Continuing Education (CE) credit 
CE credit is typically applied for in the state/province of the program & other select states/provinces. Please inquire with PCC at (563) 884-5715 if this course is approved for CE credit in your state or province. Always register a minimum of 2 weeks before your state's or province's CE application deadline (if it is not the state/province of the course) and email of your request. If you do not notify us of your CE request with enough lead time before the CE application deadline, there is no guarantee we can obtain CE credit in your state/province for the course. An additional fee may apply depending on the amount of your state's or province's CE application fee.
