CANCELLED: What Job Developers Need to Know About Social Security and Work 

Fear of losing Social Security benefits remains one of the biggest barriers to employment for people with disabilities.  As a job developer, you play a key role in helping to dispel the myths around work and Social Security.  

This training will focus on what every job developer needs to know about Social Security benefits and work incentives. Topics that will be covered include:

  • Principles from Behavioral Economics that are important to understand when discussing benefits.
  • How to shift the conversation from protecting benefits to placing a person on the pathway to financial stability
  • The differences between Social Security Supplemental Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
  • Overview of SSI Work Incentives and SSDI Work Incentives
  • Tools, resources and strategies that are helpful 
  • Who to contact locally for Benefits Advisement

There is no cost for this training thanks to our funding partners, Department of Health/Developmental Disabilities Supports Division and New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehabilitaiton.

About the Presenter

Abby Cooper is a nationally-recognized consultant with Marc Gold and Associates and  is an expert on topics related to Customized Employment.  She was the Director of  the first supported employment agency as well as the DVR Administrator in  Washington State.
