Early finding from the NCAA-DoD Concussion Assessment, Research, and Education (CARE) Consortium
The Concussion Assessment, Research and Education (CARE) Consortium is the largest study of concussion, including both sexes, multiple sites, and a variety of sports. It is designed to address knowledge gaps, shed light on the neurobiological mechanism of concussion and better understand the course of recovery. Over 28,000 individuals, including 1,500 sport-related concussions, have been captured to date.
This presentation will focus on the findings during the first 36 months of data collection. The data incorporate a multi-dimensional assessment of standardized clinical measures of postconcussive symptomatology, performance-based testing (cognitive function, postural stability), and psychological health. This symposium will present an overview of what we know and do not know about concussion and findings from the first 36 months of CARE data collection.
