Sandtray Skills Lab - Intermediate

in VA 

Description:

Participants will bring well thought out and written case study to present to the group. A particular format for presentation will be made available prior to the session. Following case presentation, case will be processed by instructor with input from participants. Participants will continue their sandtray play therapy skill development for how to ethically and effectively process sandtrays using their actual clients. Ongoing skill development for how to “hold” the sandtray in play therapy and understand its symbolic content will continue in this skills lab.

**Participants must bring their own small sandtray, sand and a few miniatures for the experiential portion of this training.**

This workshop is designed for:

Social workers (LCSW, LMSW, LISW, BSW, AAW), psychologists (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D.) school counselors, school psychologist, professional counselors (LMHC, LCMHC, CMHC, LPC, LCPC), marriage and family therapists (LMFT, LIMFT) art therapists, play therapists, occupational therapists, graduate students, and others in the mental health-related field.  This is an intermediate level seminar which means that individuals who attend should have already received a foundation in play therapy, therapy with children, and/or the topic area being presented.

Recall the pros and cons of art versus sandtray in play therapy

Presenter:  Amanda Bechtel, ATR-BC, LCPC, LCPAT

Amanda is a board certified registered art therapist, licensed clinical professional counselor and licensed clinical professional art therapist. She is certified as a Practitioner Member of Sandplay Therapists of America. She has worked at both the Eating Disorder Center at Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to eating disorders, she has used art therapy to treat symptoms of depression, anxiety, self-injurious behavior and substance abuse. She holds a certificate in advanced trauma treatment. Amanda currently sits on the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists for the state of Maryland.

Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars provider #1602 is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Program.  Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars maintains responsibility for the program.  ASWB Approval Period: 5/14/2018 to 5/14/2019.  Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval.  Social workers participating in this course will receive 12 continuing education clock hours.

CE Certificates:

     After completion of the workshop, participants who have provided payment, indicated attendance via signature & initials on the sign-in sheet that is provided at the workshop, and have completed an evaluation of the course will be given a CE certificate via hard-copy which will be presented at the close of the workshop upon completion of the course evaluation.  A sign-in/sign-out sheet will be provided at the workshop.  In order to receive credit, all participants must indicate attendance by both signing in and out.
