Politics, perceptions and the role of evidence in policymaking

Given the exceptionally partisan political climateand skepticism of information that doesn’tadhere to particular points of view, it is difficultfor policymakers and others to evaluate theevidence needed to implement effective healthpolicy. And with the new administration signalingthat states will have greater opportunity to takethe lead on policy decisions, it is even morecritical that state leaders have access to reliabledata and analysis.

This forum will explore the importance ofevidence-based decision making, particularlyat the state level, and how policymakers andothers can determine the credibility of informationand overcome opposition to evidence thatchallenges preconceived partisan ideology.

Ron Haskins, Co-Chair, Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking & Brookings Institution
Jennifer Haberkorn, Politico
