This all-day field trip will follow the path of the 1947 fire and offer fire scientists and managers an excellent outdoor classroom for exchanging information about fire ecology, fuels reduction, wildfire preparedness, and other lessons and challenges learned in 1947 and the seven decades since that catastrophe.

0800-0830 Registration at Blue Nose Inn, 90 Eden St., Bar Harbor
0830-0900 Welcome, brief field trip overview, load bus
0900-1200 Morning field sites including Lakewood (burned vegetation), Dolliver's Dump (fire origin), MDI High School (site where fire crowned and jumped the road), Eagle Lake (unburned vegetation)
1200-1245 Box lunch at Acadia National Park headquarters
1245-1600 Afternoon field sites including 1947 vista, Cadillac Mountain, the Tarn, and Otter Point
1600-1630 Wrap-up and evaluations, return to Blue Nose Inn

Registration information
Field Trip Cost: $25
Registration includes 1 seat on the bus (all registrants must ride on the bus), box lunch, and snacks. We recommend that you bring a water bottle, hiking boots, and weather-appropriate clothing.
Lodging Options
Lodging costs are not included in field trip registration. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Blue Nose Inn for $119/night + tax at the government rate for the nights of 10/16, 10/17, and 10/18.
