Course Description

This workshop provides an overview of construction project risk management practices. A review of standard construction contracts and the elements that should be present to protect the municipality against a loss before, during and after the construction project begins. 

What You Will Learn

Attendees will learn about:

  • surety (bonding); 
  • course of construction; 
  • wrap up liability; 
  • professional liability; and
  • owner controlled insurance programs.

Who Should Attend?

CAO’s, administrators, managers, supervisors, town foremen and lead hands who would be involved in the planning, development and oversight of a construction project for the municipality.

About the Presenters

John Spooner, B.Comm, CIP --  John is a Senior Vice-President, with Aon Reed Stenhouse Inc. in the Construction Services Group out of Saskatoon. He provides day-to-day servicing, account management and consulting to various successful Saskatchewan-based contractors including general contractors and large trade contractors, and is the construction segment leader for Saskatchewan. He has been a formal presenter on risk insurance and bonding related topics including design-build liabilities, contract surety and drafting insurance specifications to the Saskatoon Construction Association, City of Saskatoon, Construction Specifications Canada, and the Construction Symposium. He has also presented on director’s and officer’s liability insurance and owner controlled insurance programs. John is a panel presenter for the Saskatoon Construction Association’s popular ‘Construction 101’ seminars.
 
Mike Sali, B.Admin, CRM, CAIB -- Mike is currently a Vice-President, with Aon Reed Stenhouse Inc. in the Construction Services Group out of Regina. He provides day-to-day servicing, account management and consulting to various successful Saskatchewan-based contractors including general contractors and large trade contractors, and is a specialist in proving risk management advice on public private partnerships projects, contract surety and owner controlled risk management and insurance programs. Mike has been a formal presenter on risk insurance and bond related topics for The Saskatchewan Construction Assocation, Regina Construction Association, Saskatchewan Heavy Construction Association and Construction Specifications Canada.
