About the event
Join us for the morning to hear from Rev. Dr. Chris Haughee, chaplain for Intermountain Residential Services in Helena, Montana. Chris’ professional work with children who have lived through significant trauma, his own personal experience as an adoptive father of two and his work with the Adverse Childhood Experiences ACEs study led him to write “Bruised Reeds and Smoldering Wicks,” curriculum on how churches and faith communities can better understand trauma and lead trauma-informed ministry practices,
This four-hour training blends trauma ministry with the work of science. Chris will cover SAMHSA’s “three R” approach to helping churches become trauma-informed: Realize, Recognize and Respond. Chris will also cover ways to communicate with those who have experienced trauma, including how to start difficult conversations. Chris leads this discussion through the lens of the Bible and utilizes verses throughout to convey how Jesus and God have been leading a trauma-informed response throughout history.
This seminar is great for pastors, community leaders, foster parents or anyone who is working with those who have experienced trauma in their lifetime.
About the speaker
The Rev. Dr. Chris Haughee is a licensed minister of the Evangelical Covenant Church and has served as chaplain of Intermountain’s residential services since 2012. Prior to serving at Intermountain, Chris had ministered primarily in children’s and youth ministries. An adoptive father to two, he is an advocate for greater inclusion of foster and adoptive families in the life and ministry of local congregations. Chris was part of a unique Doctorate of Ministry program through Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon, that had a focus on advocacy and cross-cultural ministry engagement. As part of that work, he developed “Bruised Reeds and Smoldering Wicks.
