“Cookbooks, it should be stressed, do not belong in the kitchen at all. We keep them there for the sake of appearances; occasionally, we smear their pages together with vibrant green glazes or crimson compotes, in order to delude ourselves, and any passing browsers, that we are practicing cooks; but in all honesty, a cookbook is something you read in the living room, or in the bathroom, or in bed.”  -   Anthony Lane, Nobody's Perfect: Writings from The New Yorker

Cher Confrères et Consœurs,

October offers us a truly unique event!  To celebrate the release of her cookbook, Triangle Bailliage Maître Restaurateur Jamie DeMent will demonstrate a selection of recipes at Midway Community Kitchen in Chapel Hill on Sunday, October 22nd at 4:30PM.

The menu will include three appetizers, one salad, two main courses, one vegetable side dish, and one dessert.  All paired with exquisite wines, along with commentary and stories by the author, of course!

Cookbooks will be available for sale at the event.  And wouldn't an autographed copy make the perfect holiday gift for your foodie friends?

Raised in Eastern North Carolina, Jamie DeMent – farmer, home cook, restaurateur, entrepreneur, teacher and local food advocate – has devoted her life to cultivating and championing sustainable foodways. Together, she and partner Richard Holcomb own Coon Rock Farm, a diverse, 55-acre organic family farm in Hillsborough, NC. The couple also own the award-winning 4-star restaurant, Piedmont, in downtown Durham, NC, as well as two online farmers markets which service the region and the nation: Bella Bean Organics and Heirloom Provisions. Jamie offers a distinctive voice in today’s farm-to-table movement, so dominated by chefs. Her wealth of knowledge about farming and home cooking, and vivacious and colorful personality, make her one of the most refreshing voices in today’s Southern farm-to-fork movement. The Farmhouse Chef - Recipes & Stories from My Carolina Farm, is DeMent’s first cookbook.

Dress will be Casual with decorations.  Due to space limitations, registration will cut off at 25.

The cost for this unique event will be $125 for Chaîne members, $140 for non-members, their spouses/partners/guests.
