Presentation Topic:  Challenges to Smart City Reality

We are all energized by the promise of Smart City, Smart Mobility, and the opportunities new technologies bring to our region. Particularly exciting are advances in Data Analytics, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, and the Digitalization of all of our experiences. I will discuss how numerous real world challenges stand as barriers to the bright future we hope for. In particular, we are lacking in skills, cross-functional coordination, standards, cultural preparedness, and the availability of talent to do the needed work. My hopeful message is around how we can reduce traditional boundaries between companies, governments, competitors and rivals to overcome these barriers, extending the benefits of Smart City and the Fourth Industrial Revolution to ourselves both locally and globally.
