First lessons help young children learn about how things work in the world and about all the exciting ways we move and travel – in our imaginations, with our bodies through space, as well as travel in cars, sleds, planes -- and rockets!
This conference introduces a rich array of arts activities and concepts that will help children explore the many learning possibilities centered around this theme.
Through music, movement, creative drama and visual arts, participants will experience a wealth of activities they can use with children in classrooms, child-care settings, community sites and at home. They’ll take away sample lessons as well as many user-friendly ways to link the arts and learning. We'll be singing, dancing and creating unique "vehicles" for our travels.

We'll do movement, music, drama and visual arts activities that are engaging, joyful and linked to the conference theme. We'll also focus on early literacy, displaying and discussing a variety of books related to movement, travel and imagination.

Particular attention will be paid to meeting the needs of children with developmental and learning differences. Participants will take away sample lessons as well as a wealth of user-friendly ways to link the arts  to children's literature and learning.

Teaching artist presenters include Deborah Stuart, Will Cabell, Kelly Doremus Stuart and Richard Moses.
