Latvian Mittens with Jeanne Giberson--Saturday Nov 4 9:30am-4:30pm
Join Jeannie Giberson for a one day class to learn about the construction of Latvian mittens. We will knit a toddler/ornament sized mitten. Its graph is typical of mittens from District of Vidzeme, Latvia and has an 18th Century type cuff. You will knit in the round on double point needles using a chart. Jeannie edited the English translation Mittens of Latvia that was published in 2015 and participated in the 2017 knitting tour of Kurzeme hosted by the publisher of the book Latviesa Cimdi on ethnographic mittens written by Maruta Grasmane.
During the class at Cowgirl Yarn, you will learn about the role of mittens in the culture of Latvia and handle a small sampling of actual Latvian mittens.
Materials: 4 colors of Rauma Finullgarn, 1 skein each, size 1 or 2 DPNS, stitch markers, pencil
Meeting: Saturday Novemer 4 9:30am-4:30pm with a lunch break around 12:30. Please bring a lunch with you.
